Q: I've managed to get quite a bunch of red algae in my aquarium. It's freshwater, 29 gallons. I have a few tetras, a couple clown loaches, a plecostomos and 2 cory cats.

I have an Emperor hang on filter, as well as an undergravel filter.

-Why am I getting all this crap?
-Is there a way to get rid of it, short of a razor blade? The girl at my LFS said that fish won't eat it, unless I want to hassle around with bleaching everything about all I can do is scrape it off. Does that sound right?

Thanks,

A: Check your Fluorescent lighting (if applicable) These should be replaced yearly. I find that happens when the spectrum in the bulbs start fading.

The Chinese algae eaters will do a good job getting rid of it.

If it gets out of hand, try to syphon the algae from the tank with a gravel vacuum. Also, try not to disturb the algae too much. It causes it to spore and spread faster.
