Elephant Nose FishThe Elephant Nose

Now here is a really cool fish. The unusual appearance and novelty of the ElephantNose makes this a unique specimen for any tank. These fish are very sensitive to water conditions, so they are recommended for intermediate to expert keepers. In fact, it has been reported that some municipal water treatment plants use these fish to test water quality.

It is recommended to keep these fish either singularly or in groups of 3 or more. They are somewhat intolerant to their own species. Larger numbers mean the aggression is spread out more and they can happily exist in larger tanks.

The shape is not their only unique trait. The ElephantNose is capable of emitting electrical charges. It uses this current for both protection and communication among their own kind. The charge is emitted from their tails. You will notice that they tend to "back up" a lot. This is a technique they use to test for danger. If something bites their tail, they are in for a bit of a shock...literally!

It is said that they are intelligent enough to know they are in a confined area of water which is why they are often found outside of the tank (on the floor) as they will always seek escape.

This is definately worth stopping by to check out. A very cool specimen! Only $26.99!
